About
My name is Emmah Williams I am a recent graduate in Spanish and European studies and an eternal student of writing and the communicative arts. I have been writing articles, poetry, stories ever since I could hold a pen. So, I have been annoying and opinionated via the written word for as long as I can remember. I have already bored friends and family into quiet submission (read: rolling-eyes-kind-of-silence) so I had to resort to writing my opinions over the internet instead.
On a serious note, I consider this blog a very important project for me, for my growth as a writer as well as on a personal level. A lot of my writing is my way of making sense of the world and there are a number of topics that are important to investigate, explore, and write about. The subject of gender is one such issue.
Gender is a thread that runs from the core of our personal identities creating the very fabric of western society and culture. Questions of life and death, family, marriage, children, the workplace, economics, relationships, sex and sexuality, freedom, morality, beauty and power are all touched –in one way or another -by gender issues.
I first started writing about gender as a personal reaction to a recent phenomenon that was keening at my awareness. All around me -in the newspapers, on the internet and on TV- I read many voices of dissent. “Women are being oppressed!” The feminists cry. “No! You have it all backwards!” Men respond, “It is men that suffer and it is your fault!”
Just imagine what would happen if you could silence those voices even just for a moment. What would we learn about each other if we just stopped this bickering? Have you ever wondered why men and women cannot just get along?* I have. And this (among other questions) is what prompted me to begin writing this blog in June 2006.
So I bid you a warm welcome to Engendertruth.com and I hope you can find material here of value to you and those you know and love. Feel free to read the reasons why I blog in more detail.
If you have any comments and/or questions please leave a message in the forums or a comment after one of the posts. It is always good to have feedback.
Thank you,
